Minimum age 16
This permit allows the holder to fly as pilot-in-command either an ultralight or a single engine airplane during the daytime with visual reference to the ground and water at all times (VFR). The recreational pilot is limited to a single passenger. The privileges of this permit are limited, but the training hours are somewhat less than for a private pilot licence.

This license allows you to fly a single engine aircraft under daytime conditions with visual reference to the ground and water at all times (VFR). Pilots can add ratings and qualifications to their private licence as they become more experienced. This is your base qualification to allow you to advance to the commercial level.

Minimum Age: 18
To obtain a Commercial Pilot License you need a Private Pilot License, to pass a commercial medical examination by a Transport Canada approved doctor, complete commercial ground school, take additional hours of flight training, pass a written examination and flight test.
$2,000 - $3,000
This rating is available to private pilots and requires a minimum of 20 hours of pilot flight time. There is no written examination or flight test.

This rating allows Private and Commercial Pilots in airplanes or helicopters to fly on top of cloud or between layers when operating under visual flight rules.
$8,000 - $10,000
To obtain an Instructor Rating you must already have a valid Commercial Pilot License, complete one-on-one instructor ground school, take additional hours of flight training, pass a written examination and flight test.
